Republican Kentucky Rep. Thomas Massie said on Monday that he does not support Democratic New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortezâs push to impeach President Donald Trump for striking Iran without congressional approval, even though he too opposes the attack.
Massie opposed Trump several times and condemned the Saturday bombings of three Iranian nuclear sites with an X post saying they were ânot constitutional.â However, when host Tim Pool asked Massie on âTimcast,â whether he agrees with Ocasio-Cortez that the strikes merited impeachment, the congressman said the process would be useless under the circumstances.

âImpeachment isnât a serious solution. It doesnât solve anything here. The attack has already been done. Iâm part of a coalition that I want to keep together,â Massie said. âItâs a coalition inside of the Republican Party, who I would include J.D. Vance and Tulsi Gabbard in it, frankly, who joined in support of this president because we didnât want another regime change war in the Middle East.â
âAnd so to go off about impeachment does no good whatsoever in this circumstance,â he continued. âWe have tools available to us to rein this back in here in Congress and thatâs called the War Powers Act. So thatâs what Iâm using.â
Massie, along with Democratic California Rep. Khanna, introduced a resolution on June 17 that seeks to bar Trump from engaging in âunauthorized hostilitiesâ with Iran. But before Congress ever deliberated on the legislation, Trump announced the âvery successful attackâ on Iran.
After the bombings, Khanna asserted in a Saturday X post that Congress needed to âimmediately returnâ to session to vote on the resolution in order to âprevent America from being dragged into another endless Middle East war.â
Trump wrote a long Truth Social post on Sunday announcing that he and his team would primary Massie.
âCongressman Thomas Massie of Kentucky is not MAGA, even though he likes to say he is,â the president wrote. âActually, MAGA doesnât want him, doesnât know him, and doesnât respect him,â Trump wrote. âHeâs a simple minded âgrandstanderâ who thinks itâs good Politics for Iran to have the highest level Nuclear weapon, while at the same time yelling âDEATH TO AMERICAâ at every chance they get.â
The congressman successfully fought off primary challengers for threeconsecutiveelection cycles. He told Axios in May that internal polling indicated that he maintains strong support in central Kentucky.
Democratic Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman on Monday also dismissed Ocasio-Cortezâs advocacy to impeach Trump.
âShe knows it, I know it, we all know it. Thatâs not going anywhere. And, you know, heâs been impeached twice and now heâs still our president as well now, too,â Fetterman said. âSo itâs not going anywhere. And I donât think thatâs helpful. And I think if you throw that term around, that actually diminishes the severity of what impeachment is reserved for.â
