Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau agreed to crack down on border security Monday in exchange for a pause on President Donald Trump’s tariffs.

Canada’s 25% retaliatory tariff was also postponed as the two leaders pledged co-operation to secure their mutual border.

Canada is implementing our $1.3 billion border plan — reinforcing the border with new choppers, technology and personnel, enhanced coordination with our American partners, and increased resources to stop the flow of fentanyl,” Trudeau said on X. “Nearly 10,000 frontline personnel are and will be working on protecting the border.”
Canada will also designate cartels as terrorist organizations, while creating a joint U.S.-Canada Strike Force to combat “organized crime, fentanyl and money laundering,” Trudeau said on X.
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum also caved to Trump Monday, promising to deploy 10,000 of her country’s National Guard soldiers to the southern border in exchange for a 30-day pause on the tariffs.
“As President, it is my responsibility to ensure the safety of ALL Americans, and I am doing just that,” Trump said
