Trump Admin Moves To Eliminate Animal Testing

The Trump administration announced Tuesday that it is taking two key steps to eliminate animal testing.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) said the agency is expanding its list of “cutting-edge” alternative test methods known as New Approach Methods (NAMs) to replace animal studies for chemical assessments under the Toxic Substances Control Act and the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act. The EPA is also rolling out a streamlined process for researchers, companies and other stakeholders to nominate NAMs for consideration in pesticide and chemical assessments.

“When the Trump Administration makes a commitment, we deliver. With today’s announcement, we’re accelerating the shift to modern, gold standard science – without the use of animal testing – by using new, innovative methods to review chemicals,” EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin said in a statement. “By broadening high-quality alternatives and inviting strong new candidates, we can deliver faster, more protective decisions while reducing animal testing.”

The announcement comes as the EPA is aiming to eliminate all mammalian animal testing by 2035. President Donald Trump’s first administration previously set a deadline to end the testing of chemicals on mammals by 2035, but President Joe Biden’s administration later scrapped the deadline, according to Science.org.

“Earlier this year, White Coat Waste proudly joined EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin to restore the historic Trump-era plan to phase out animal testing by 2035 after we exposed how the Biden Administration quietly scrapped it behind closed doors,” White Coat Waste (WCW) Founder and President Anthony Bellotti said in a statement provided to the Daily Caller News Foundation on Tuesday. “We commend Administrator Zeldin and the EPA for following through on their commitment to cut wasteful animal testing.”

“White Coat Waste was the first to expose Dr. Fauci’s beagle tests and has led the fight to defund all dog labs ever since,” Bellotti added. “Taxpayers shouldn’t be forced to bankroll big-government bureaucrats who mandate beagle torture, butcher bunnies, force animals to inhale firearm emissions in bizarre gun-control experiments, or lock animals alone in sweltering, smog-filled cages and feed them lard in absurd studies on climate change, obesity, and loneliness—as the EPA did under the Biden administration.”

Biden’s National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases notably granted taxpayer funds for abusive animal experiments, according to documents obtained by WCW in 2021.
