Critics of former President Donald Trump are becoming alarmed after he vowed to go after opponents if he wins, harkening back to the riot that followed the 2020 election.
Over the weekend, Trump said heāll prosecute donors, lawyers and elections officials who he said ācheatedā in the 2020 election or who performed what he deemed āunscrupulousā behavior in November, per The Hill.
Republicans have said Trumpās focus on the 2020 election and his claims of fraud are not helpful politically.
Critics, however, have viewed Trumpās most recent rants as a warning sign about what could happen in November whether he wins or loses.
āAs we head into the debate, an extreme and unhinged Donald Trumpis further ratcheting up his dangerous threats of revenge and retribution,ā Harris campaign spokesperson Ammar Moussa said.
āTrump is openly laying out how he will try to rule as a dictator on day one to go after his political enemies. Another thing is clear: For Donald Trump, itās all about himself,ā Moussa added.
Since his 2020 election defeat, Trump has claimed widespread fraud. Trump was indicted in Georgia and in Washington, D.C., following his attempts to overturn the election results.
Trump said Saturday that anyone deemed to have ācheatedā in either the 2020 election or in the 2024 election would be prosecuted.
āWHEN I WIN, those people that CHEATED will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the Law, which will include long term prison sentences so that this Depravity of Justice does not happen again,ā Trump posted Saturday on Truth Social.
