Donations are flowing into former President Donald Trumpās election campaign in the aftermath of a jury in New York City finding him guilty on 34 felony counts.
On Friday, the Trump campaign said in a statement it nearly doubled its best single-day fundraising haul, bringing in $34.8 million.
āCrooked Joe Biden and the Democrats with their election interference political witch hunt have awakened the MAGA movement like never before,ā the statement added.
Chris LaCivita and Susie Wiles, senior advisers to the Trump campaign, said, āFrom just minutes after the sham trial verdict was announced, our digital fundraising system was overwhelmed with support, and despite temporary delays online because of the amount of traffic, President Trump raised $34.8 million dollars from small donors.ā
āNot only was the amount historic, but 29.7% of yesterdayās donorās were brand new donors to the WinRed platform,ā they continued. āPresident Trump and our campaign are immensely grateful from this outpouring of support from patriots across our country.ā
Finally, they said, āPresident Trump is fighting to save our nation and November 5th is the day Americans will deliver the real verdict.ā
The number cited by the Trump campaign is nearly half of the roughly $76 million it raised in the whole month of April.
On Thursday, Trumpwas found guilty on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records in an attempt to cover up a hush money payment to adult film star Stormy Daniels ahead of the 2016 election.
Conservatives haveĀ criticized the caseĀ and alleged it was an example of selective prosecution against Trump.Ā
Additionally, they have took issue with the legal theory of the case which bumped the charges up from misdemeanors to felonies on the basis that business records were falsified in furtherance of another crime. And while the prosecution did not precisely make clear what the other crime was, it argued the falsification was done in furtherance of a campaign finance violation in closing arguments.
After the verdict, Trump delivered brief remarks from the courthouse.
āThis is a rigged disgraceful trial. The real verdict is going to be November 5th by the people,ā he told reporters.
Trump claimed, āWe didnāt do a thing wrong. Iām a very innocent man. Itās okay. Iām fighting for our country, Iām fighting for our Constitution. Our whole country is being rigged right now. This was done by the Biden administration in order to wound or hurt a political opponent.ā
