President Donald Trump has asserted that not only are Democrats to blame for the Government shutdown, the are the majority of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) recipients.
That is what Trump said on Air Force One en route to Mar-a-lago Friday, Mediaite reported.
Also on Friday, JudgeIndira Talwani in Massachusetts and Judge John McConnell in Rhode Island ruled the White House needed to continue funding food assistance during the Government shutdown, which were set to lapse Nov. 1.
Before the decisions if the two federal judges were released, Trump was asked about SNAP funding.
âOn the SNAP benefits set to expire tomorrow, folks are (INAUDIBLE) about putting out canned goods and non-perishables for trick-or-treaters,â a reporter said. âIs there a possibility, like you did with the military moving around funds, is there a possiblity to do that?â
âWell, it always is, but all the Democrats have to do is say, letâs go. I mean, you know, they donât have to do anything. They donât, all they have to do is, say, the government is open. And we only need five Democrats,â Trump said.
âBut theyâre, you, know, theyâve become a radical left party. They really have, theyâve become a very radical left partner. And theyâve lost their minds. Theyâve lost them minds. All they have to do, is say the government is open and thatâs the end of it,â the president continued.
âAnd you know largely, when you talk about SNAP, youâre talking about largely Democrats, but⌠Iâm president. I want to help everybody. I want help Democrats and Republicans,â Trump alleged. âBut when youâre talking about SNAP, if you look, itâs largely Democrats hurting their own people. Thank you very much, everybody.â
