President Donald Trump, an ardent New York Knicks fan, congratulated the team on taking home the NBA Championship Saturday.
Trump posted his remarks on Truth Social and gave a special shoutout to team owner James Dolan, a friend of the president.
The Knicks defeated the San Antonio Spurs in Game 5, 94-90.
“Congratulations to Jim Dolan and the New York Knicks!!!” Trump wrote. “What a year it has been but, even more so, what incredible playoff wins we have all witnessed, especially the last four – Maybe the greatest in the history of basketball.”
The president mentioned several of Knicks players, including NBA Finals MVP Jalen Brunson.
“Tonight, a superstar was born,” Trump said. “His name is Jalen Brunson, and there are others, including, Karl-Anthony Towns, OG Anunoby, and great Patriot, Mitchell Robinson! MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN! President DONALD J. TRUMP”
While Trump showed his love for the Knicks, many fans do not feel the same about Trump.
On Monday, Trump attended Game 3 of the NBA Finals at Madison Square Garden in New York.
He was booed when shown on the big screen in the arena.
The Knicks had their only loss in their last 16 games of the season and many called it the “Trump curse.”
