Trump Critic Vows to Support Former President Even if He is Convicted

New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu (R) is vowing to support former President Donald Trump even if he is convicted of a crime.

Speaking to ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos on Sunday, Sununu predicted the hush money case in New York City will not have “major political ramifications.”

“When it comes to these issues, people see them more as reality TV as this point. They really do,” he continued.

Sununu also predicted Trump will try to “re-hash” what happens in the trials and cast himself as a victim while he’s on the campaign trail.

“This has been going on for more than a year and his poll numbers never go down,” he added.

Sununu also said he is not “comfortable” with the idea of supporting someone who may be convicted of a crime for president.

Still, the governor did not rule out supporting Trump in the general election.

Stephanopoulos asked, “Just to sum up. You support Trump for president even if he’s convicted in the classified documents case. You support him for president even though you believe he contributed to an insurrection. You support him for president even though you believe he’s lying about the last election. You support him for president even if he’s convicted in the Manhattan case. I just want to say, the answer to that is yes, correct?”

Sununu responded, “Yeah. Me and 51% of America.”

Sununu was a critic of Trump during the 2024 Republican presidential primary, going so far as to call him a “coward.”

However, Trump has dismissed him as a “whacko governor.”
