During President Donald Trump’s record-breaking 1 hour and 47 minute State of the Union address, Sen. Elizabeth Warren — one of his fiercest and most consistent critics — stood up and applauded.

Yes, that Elizabeth Warren.

The Massachusetts Democrat, widely regarded as a progressive icon and frequent Trump antagonist, rose to her feet when the president called on Congress to pass the Stop Insider Trading Act. The moment immediately caught attention inside the chamber and across social media.

“As we ensure that all Americans can profit from a rising stock market, let’s also ensure that members of Congress cannot corruptly profit using inside information,” Trump declared. “Pass the Stop Insider Trading Act without delay.”

Warren has long supported legislation aimed at banning members of Congress from trading individual stocks, making Trump’s call one of the rare areas of overlap between the two political heavyweights.

The proposed legislation would bar lawmakers, as well as their spouses and dependent children, from purchasing publicly traded stocks. It would also require a seven-day public notice before selling off any stock holdings.
