President Donald Trump wants to keep the late Sen. Lindsey Graham’s seat in the upper chamber in the Graham family.

To that end, the president recommended Darline Graham Nordone to South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster as the interim replacement for her brother in the U.S. Senate.

Trump made his recommendation known in a post on Truth Social.

"I recommended, to Governor Henry McMaster, Lindsey Graham's wonderful sister, Darline, to serve as interim Senator from the Great State of South Carolina," Trump wrote. "This would be a fabulous tribute to Lindsey, who loved her dearly!"

Trump made his one day after Graham's office announced that preliminary findings from the District of Columbia medical examiner concluded the senator died from an aortic tear caused by cardiovascular disease, per Newsmax.

Additional toxicological and microscopic testing is still pending.

According to The Wall Street Journal, emergency responders were dispatched to Graham's Capitol Hill home Saturday night after he was reported to have chest pains.

Trump said he spoke with Graham just hours earlier when Graham briefed him on his recent trip to Ukraine.

The president told reporters Graham was tired after the trip but appeared to be in good spirits.

"He said, 'I'm tired because it's a long trip,' but other than that he was fine," Trump said.

FBI Director Kash Patel revealed Sunday the bureau was assisting local authorities and had made federal resources available during the investigation.

According to South Carolina law, McMaster is charged with appointing an interim senator to serve until a replacement is elected.

The governor has not publicly said who he plans to select.
