President-elect Donald Trump rang in Thursday with the announcement he is Time magazineās āPerson of the Yearā only to follow that up with ringing the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange.
Before ringing the bell, Trump thanked Time, lauded the NYSE and announced a few economic goals he has set for his second term as president, per a report in The Hill.
All this while standing in front a display of Timeās cover announcing his new honor.
āIt is an honor. And this is a double, because usually they donāt coordinate the man of the year ā or the Person of the Year ā with the ringing of the bell,ā Trump said. āAnd brilliantly, youāve picked them both at the same time ⦠It takes one trip.ā
Former first lady Melania, Vice President-elect JD Vance and Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Trumpās nominee to lead the Department of Health and Human Services, were on hand Thursday morning.
This was the first time he rang the opening bell, which signals the start of trading for the day.
This, however, was the second time Trump had been named āPerson of the Year.ā
The first time was in 2016 when he won his first trip to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.
āTime magazine, getting this honor for the second time ā I think I like it better this time, actually,ā Trump said.
