President Donald Trump said he will âprobably notâ seek another term as president.
The 79-year-old was asked his intention Tuesday on CNBCâs âSquawk Box,â The Hill reported.
âNo, probably not,â Trump said when asked.
âIâd like to run. I have the best poll numbers Iâve ever had,â Trump said.
Watch:
The idea of a Third Term has been broached before even though the 22nd Amendment forbids someone from being elected to more than two terms as president.
âPeople are asking me to run. I donât know, I never looked into it. And they do say thereâs a way you can do it, but I donât know about that,â Trump said this year.
One Republican lawmaker sought to change the U.S. Constitution to allow Trump to seek another term.
Rep. Andy Ogles (R-Tenn.) unveiled a Consitutional amendment that would allow Trump to seek reelection since his terms would not be consecutive,
âThe proposal has essentially no chance of passing Congress,â per The Hill.
