Thereās still money months to go before the presidential election in November, but presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump is wondering if a win will start his second or third term as president.
Trump spoke Saturday to members of the the National Rifle Association (NRA) on Saturday and speculated on the possibilities, The Hill reported.
āYou know, FDR 16 years, almost 16 years, he was four-term. I donāt know, are we going to be considered three term or two term?ā he asked. āAre we three term or two term if we win?ā
One audience member shouted āthree.ā
In the past, Trump has stated he would not seek another term should he win in November.
Presidents are limited to two terms, per the 22nd Amendment, which was enacted after President Franklin D. Roosevelt was elected to four terms.
In an interview with Time magazine, Trump said he would retire after his second term and not challenge the 22nd Amendment.
āI wouldnāt be in favor of a challenge. Not for me. I wouldnāt be in favor of it at all. I intend to serve four years and do a great job. And I want to bring our country back. I want to put it back on the right track,ā the 77-year-old said.
āOur country is going down. Weāre a failing nation right now. Weāre a nation in turmoil,ā he said.
