President Donald Trump will speak at a hearing on religious liberty in education.
This will mark the second meeting of the Religious Liberty Commission that Trump established in May, per The Daily Wire in an exclusive report. The hearing will be held Monday in the Museum of the Bible.
The commissionâs mission is to protect the rights of Americans to practice their faith. Parents and students will discuss the experiences they have had in expressing their faith in public schools at the hearing.
Trumpâs administration has placed importance on safeguarding religious liberties. This includes allowing federal workers to be more open about their beliefs as well as pardoning pro-life Christians that were targeted during the Biden administration regarding peaceful demonstrations at abortion facilities.
âThe previous administration abused the federal governmentâs power to interfere with Americansâ First Amendment right to religious freedom,â White House spokeswoman Taylor Rogers said. âThey even used the Department of Justice to target peaceful people of faith, specifically Christians. This is exactly why President Trump established the Religious Liberty Commission to stop the emerging threats against Americansâ inalienable right to practice their Religion freely.â
Others in attendance at the hearing include Attorney General Pam Bondi and Religious Liberty Commission Chair Dan Patrick.
A group of elementary school students âwho will share stories of challenges to their religious libertyâ will be first up at the hearing, according to the White House.
âOther panels will feature parents whose rights to raise their kids religiously were âchallenged or abridged in the school system,â and students who faced challenges to their faith in higher education,â The Daily Wire reported.
The White House said the hearingâs mission is to âunderstand the historic landscape of religious liberty in the public education setting, identify present threats to religious liberty in Americaâs public school systems, and identify opportunities to secure religious liberty in this context for the future.â
âPresident Trump is the greatest defender for people of faith in modern history and will continue to protect and promote Americaâs founding principle of religious freedom,â Rogers said.
Trump said on Tuesday that he would be making a âbig announcementâ regarding the administrationâs goals to protect religious liberty.
