President Donald Trump on Wednesday pledged to declassify critical intelligence documents to aid a newly announced investigation into âgrand conspiracyâ from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI)Â to interfere in U.S. elections to benefit Democrats, according to Just the News.
The new probe will reportedly investigate whether the FBI and intelligence community weaponized false claims of Russian collusion and mishandled former Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clintonâs email controversy to damage Trumpâs 2016 presidential campaign and subsequent presidency, the outlet reported. Trump said he would assist the effort by releasing at least two classified intelligence documents that had been previously withheld from the public.
âIt was a disgrace what happened, what happened in 2016 and what happened in 2020. Itâs a disgraceful situation,â Trump told Just The News. âAnd our voting has to be straightened out.â
The first document is an annex from former Department of Justice Inspector General Michael Horowitzâs review of the FBIâs probe into Clintonâs email scandal, according to Just the News. The annex reportedly shows that then-FBI director James Comey ignored evidence of criminal wrongdoing by Clinton, who improperly used a private email server as secretary of state to share sensitive government information.
Another document concerns Special Counsel John Durhamâs report titled the âClinton Plan Intelligence,â which reportedly reveals that U.S. intelligence believed Clinton approved a plan in 2016 to fabricate a Trump-Russia collusion narrative, according to Just the News.
Federal officials under then-President Barack Obama opened investigations into claims about Trumpâs alleged ties to Russia based on what was later shown to be opposition research funded by the Clinton campaign and the Democratic National Committee. Durhamâs 2023 report found the federal probe relied on faulty intelligence and was politically motivated.
Trump also voiced support for appointing a special prosecutor to investigate late convicted sex criminal Jeffrey Epstein, according to Just the News. On July 6, the DOJ quietly released a memo about its investigation of Epstein, concluding that there was no âcredible evidenceâ that Epstein had maintained a client list, blackmailed public figures or died under suspicious circumstances.
âThey ought to look into the Jeffrey Epstein hoax too, because thatâs another hoax thatâs frankly, put out by the Democrats pushing, pushing the Republicans, and put out by the Democrats,â Trump told Just the News. âTheyâve already looked at it, and they are looking at it, and I think all they have to do is put out anything credible.â
Trump suggested that former intelligence officials may have tampered with Epstein-related records to protect Democrats or harm Republicans, Just the News reported.
âI can imagine what they put into files, just like they did with the others. I mean, the Steele dossier was a total fake, right? It took two years to figure that out,â Trump told the outlet. âSo I would imagine if they were run by (former FBI director) Chris Wray and they were run by Comey, and because it was actually even before that administration, theyâve been running these files, and so much of the things that we found were fake.â
The FBI and DOJ did not respond to the Daily Caller News Foundationâs requests for comment.
The Trump administration is reportedly divided over the handling of the investigation into Epstein, with some officials expressing frustration that the DOJ may have overstated the amount of evidence they had to take down Epsteinâs alleged child trafficking ring.
âYou can arrest all the drug leaders and cartel leaders, but people want closure on this case, and the Attorney General must find a better way to reconcile that,â one official told the Daily Caller following the release of the DOJâs Epstein memo.
Moreover, Trump recently told the Daily Caller that he is âvery satisfiedâ with the FBIâs investigation into the assassination attempt against him in Butler, Pennsylvania, despite previously describing certain aspects of the case as âa little bit strange.â
