Democratic strategist James Carville on âPolitics War Roomâ Thursday expressed outrage at the Democratic National Committee (DNC) for beginning its summer meeting with a land acknowledgement.
The acknowledgment, delivered by Treaurer Lindy Sowmick of the Minnesota DemocraticâFarmerâLabor Party, was one of the first items on the DNC meeting agenda on Monday and was based on the premise that the Minnesota land they were on was improperly taken from indigenous people. Carville said on his podcast that he agreed with the premise, but argued his party was making a mistake by raising the issue at the meeting.

âWhy are you bringing this up in an election!? ⌠This is an election and the DNC is not the place to discuss this! Understand this: the DNC does not exist to right wrongs,â Carville said. âIt doesnât exist to acknowledge the more unpleasant parts of history. It doesnât exist to make people feel good. It existsâ get this through your head â to win elections! Now, do you think that is going to help us win elections ⌠by arguing about land theft from the Dakotas? Weâre not!â
âPlease stop this in the name of a just, merciful God! Donât you see whatâs happening? Donât you see where this has brought us to? For Godâs sakes, lady!â he added. âAnd what is Ken Martin doing there? You donât have but one job, Ken â itâs to win! ⌠Youâre supposed to try to win fucking elections! Before we leave this, in case youâre wondering, Fox was over this like stink on shit. They were all over it, as you could well imagine.â
Former Democratic strategist Dan Turrentine similarly condemned his party on Monday after the first day of the meeting, arguing on âThe Ingraham Angleâ that it was repeating its past mistakes that led it to its present diminished state.
âLaura, you said it: itâs the definition of insanity: you just keep doing the same thing over and over again. And as a Democrat, itâs maddening that weâre still not serious,â Turrentine told host Laura Ingraham. âYou said it: we havenât lost 4.5 million voters, nor is our brand at a historic low, because we donât fight hard enough. Itâs because we remain completely culturally disconnected and we have absolutely no agenda.â
ân the cultural issues, we literally have think tanks putting memos out that âthese are the words youâre not supposed to say,ââ he added.
Liberal think tank Third Way urged Democrats in a Friday memo to avoid using woke language that it warned could repel voters. It outlined 45 words and phrases it believed Democrats should refrain from using because âno ordinary person would ever dream ofâ saying them, arguing certain terms make Democrats sound like âextreme, divisive, elitist, and obfuscatory enforcers of wokeness.â
Democratsâ favorability plummeted to a record low of 29%, according to a March CNN poll, while a July Quinnipiac poll found only 19% of voters approved of the partyâs Congressional leadership, also marking an all-time low.
Moreover, the party has faced infighting, struggles reaching fundraising goals and steep declines in voter registration.
