Daily Caller News Foundation co-founder Tucker Carlson told British journalist Piers Morgan during a Wednesday interview that President Donald Trump must stay out of wars with Americaâs rivals to become âthe most effective presidentâ in U.S. history.
Trump campaigned on ending the Russia-Ukraine war and said during his 2024 inaugural address that he wants to finish wars and refrain from entering them, adding that his âproudest legacy will be that of a peacemaker and unifier.â Carlson, on âPiers Morgan Uncensored,â said the key to Trump achieving optimal effectiveness is to âavoid a war with Iranâ and âa deepening war with Russia.â

âIn order to stop Trump, you need to massively derail not just him, but the country. You need a COVID and/or a war ⌠if he can avoid a war with Iran and a war with Russia, a deepening war with Russia, he will be the most effective president really since the founding, I think. He will really change the country for the better,â Carlson told Morgan. âThose are the, as of today, those are the two things I can imagine where itâs just not possible to govern because youâre so distracted, because youâre so broke, because thereâs so much else going on.â
Morgan said that Carlson and Trump are both âanti-war instinctively,â with the British journalist adding the president views war as âprohibitively expensive ⌠both in terms of people who die and just financially ruinous.â
Carlson agreed, saying America is âbroke because of wars.â
âThereâs a huge debate in Washington about how to proceed, and thereâs a lot of pressure on Trump to go to war with Iran and to deepen the war with Russia. And you could argue as to why people would want that, but they do. And a lot of them are donors, and theyâre putting a lot of pressure on him and his nominees,â Carlson added. âAnd I think he wants to resist it, is my sense, because the people pushing it have an unbroken track record of failure and destruction. Itâs not like if youâre some neocon foreign policy theorist, you can point to a lot of successes. Look what we did in Libya. Howâs Iraq doing? Itâs insane. Theyâre insane.â
Trumpâs Secretary of State Marco Rubio was confirmed by the Senate on the presidentâs first day of his second term. He has indicated that he is aligned with Trumpâs views on foreign policy, including supporting a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine.
Rubio has also been outspoken about curbing Iranâs nuclear program. He said he is open to a deal, but that any concessions the U.S. makes would likely prompt Iran âto build their weapons systems and to try to restart their sponsorship of Hezbollah and other related entities.â
âPrudence in the conduct of foreign policy is not an abandonment of our values,â Rubio said during his confirmation hearing on Jan. 15. âItâs the commonsense understanding that while we remain the wealthiest and the most powerful nation on the Earth, our wealth has never been unlimited ⌠Placing our core national interest above all else is not isolation.â
