A dramatic roof Collapse inside a New Jersey BJ's Wholesale Club sent water rushing into the store Monday morning, forcing dozens of shoppers and employees to evacuate as severe storms swept through the area.
According to the New York Post, surveillance footage released by the Monmouth County Sheriff's Office captured the moment part of the roof gave way at the Ocean Township warehouse shortly after 11:15 a.m.
The video shows an older man browsing the bakery section when the ceiling suddenly collapsed, sending a torrent of water crashing into the store.
The force of the water pushed wooden display racks across the floor as debris fell from above.
The shopper narrowly avoided the Collapse and was able to move out of the way as displays and debris shifted around him.
Authorities said 27 people were inside the building when the incident occurred.
According to the sheriff's office, two people became partially trapped after the roof collapsed.
Both were able to free themselves and safely leave the building before emergency crews completed their search.
Officials confirmed that no injuries were reported.
The Collapse happened as heavy rain moved through Ocean Township, flooding roads and creating dangerous travel conditions across parts of Monmouth County.
Emergency responders from multiple agencies rushed to the scene while weather conditions continued to deteriorate.
Authorities also deployed drones and K-9 teams to conduct a thorough search of the building and ensure no one remained inside after the Collapse.
Monmouth County Sheriff Shaun Golden praised the coordinated emergency response following the incident.
"This incident is another reminder of how quickly severe weather can create dangerous and unpredictable conditions," Golden said in a statement.
"We commend all first responders who worked with urgency under challenging circumstances. Despite the ongoing flooding and severe weather affecting our communities, all worked seamlessly together to ensure everyone was safely accounted for."
Golden added that the response highlighted the commitment of emergency personnel working through difficult weather.
"Their dedication and teamwork exemplify the very best of public safety," he said.
The cause of the roof Collapse has not been announced, though it occurred as intense rainfall continued to impact the region.
