A city councilmember in Danville, Virginia, was doused in flammable liquid and set on Fire in a horrifying attack that rocked the community and stunned local officials, police said Wednesday.
According to investigators, Lee Vogler, 38, was attacked inside the office of a local magazine where he works as a managing partner. Police say a 29-year-old man entered the building, confronted Vogler, then poured a flammable substance on him, according to the Associated Press.
The two exited the building before the suspect lit Vogler on Fire, police said.
The motive? So far, police say the brutal assault had nothing to do with Vogler’s political position or council work. Instead, they believe it stemmed from a “personal matter.”
Vogler’s current condition has not been disclosed. The suspect is now in police custody.
