In Tuesdayâs episode, Cuomo denied being âracistâ and doubled down on his critiques of Harris and her supporters.
âI am being accused of being racist by some unserious people because I said Kamala Harris went from being someone âyou people donât like and never talked aboutâ to being âblack female Jesus,ââ Cuomo said Tuesday. âAll right, where am I coming from on that? ⌠One, âyou peopleâ isnât black people â I would never do that. I am an ally of the black cause in America ⌠the idea that I was saying âyou peopleâ about blacks is not true.â
âAnd by the way, blacks arenât the people who motivated Kamala Harrisâs candidacy â party officials are, who believe that they couldnât pass over a black female and hew to their diversity-by-identity mandate,â he continued. âSo my point was, when Biden said he was going to run again, which no one really thought he should, why didnât they say, âNo, you got Harrisâ? Because they didnât have confidence in Harris. And when it was âBidenâs on the down, Bidenâs on the down,â how come people werenât talking about Harris? Because Harris wasnât popular with them, thatâs why.â
Harrisâ popularity was below 40% before she launched her presidential campaign on July 21, after Biden dropped out and endorsed her, according to the FiveThirtyEight polling average.
âBut now that she has to be their pick, in their estimation, and they completely didnât allow any kind of process within the party for that â which I think hurt Harris â now they canât say anything bad about her,â Cuomo said Tuesday. âAnd if you say anything critical of her, youâre some kind of traitor and youâre empowering Hitler. And thatâs what Iâm getting hit with, but thatâs not true.â
âKamala Harris is not a godsend. Of course, Trump isnât a godsend, but Kamala Harris isnât a godsend. She is not beyond criticism,â he said. âWhat are you talking about? That is not how you win, okay, by trying to punish or censor or degrade anyone who questions what youâre about.â
The clip of Cuomo criticizing Harris posted by the Daily Caller News Foundation went viral, receiving three million views on X. HuffPost subsequently published a piece on Wednesday saying Cuomoâs analysis was a âhot take that is yikes.â
One X user responded to the clip by accusing Cuomo of âracism and misogyny,â calling it âso fucking gross.â Another accused Cuomo of referring to âBlack folksâ when he said âyou people.â
Trump currently has narrow leads over Harris in all of the top seven battleground states, according to the RealClearPolling average.
