Whoopi Goldberg is issuing an apology for her choice of words during a segment of ABC’s “The View.”
In a video post by the show’s account on Wednesday, Goldberg addressed her use of the word “gypped” as she said, “You know when you’re a certain age, you use words that you know from when you’re a kid, or you remember saying, and that’s what I did today, and I shouldn’t have, I should have thought about it a little longer before I said it.”
“I should have said ‘cheated,’ but I used another word, and I’m really, really sorry,” she added.

Goldberg made the original comments during a segment focused on allegations former President Donald Trump allegedly paid hush money to Stormy Daniels.
“The people who still believe that got, you know, gypped somehow, will still believe that he cared enough … about his wife to pay that money from his personal thing. I just don’t understand. If that was the case, then why all the subterfuge?” she said.
The show later shared the segment with the comments, but the offending word was muted.

According to NPR, “‘Gypsy’ is commonly used to describe the Romani people. But the term carries many negative connotations, and its derivative carries even more.”
“Its derivative carries even more: when somebody is ‘gypped,’ they are, according to Merriam-Webster, ‘defrauded, swindled, cheated,'” it added.
