âThe Viewâ co-host Whoopi Goldberg complained on Tuesday that former President Barack Obama called on Democrats to âtoughen upâ as they retaliate against President Donald Trump.
Obama scolded his own party for ânavel-gazingâ and âwhiningâ about Trump rather than properly standing up to his policies during a private event with donors on Friday, according to The New York Times. In response, an exasperated Goldberg said that Obama and billionaire Mark Cuban, who has also been critical of the Democratsâ reactions, are âpointing the finger at the wrong personâ when they should be criticizing their own messaging.
âSo, let me remind everybody who was out on the frontlines marching when we had the giant marches that went on,â Goldberg said. âIt was the people. The people went out. They were not navel-gazing, it was older people who were saying âwhy are you touching my Social Security?â It was not people whining, it was about people saying âwhy are you taking these rights from my child when my child was born here?â This has not been about Democrats lying back, this has been about yâall. This has been about yâall, because their messaging was always the same. Democrats have been angry about what this man tried to do the last time, and theyâre angry this time. So, with much due respect to , I believe you are pointing the finger at the wrong person when you say Democrats.â (RELATED: Whoopi Goldberg Believes Black People In America Suffer The âSameâ Abuses As Women, Gay People In Iran)

Goldberg also said the Democratsâ messaging has resonated with Americans, pointing to the No Kings protests that dispersed across the U.S. on June 14. Co-host Ana Navarro misleadingly claimed that Trump is deporting American citizen children rather than criminals, although these children accompanied their illegal immigrant parents who were deported.
âAnd yeah, okay, so some of us say that Donald Trump sucks. He does suck! And it feels good to say it,â Navarro said.
Obama said during the event that he is âsurprisedâ by the silence and intimidation coming from Democrats, the Times reported.
âItâs going to require a little bit less navel-gazing and a little less whining and being in fetal positions. And itâs going to require Democrats to just toughen up,â Obama said. âWhat I have been surprised by is the degree to which Iâve seen people who, when I was president, or progressives, liberals, stood for all kinds of stuff, who seem like theyâre kind of cowed and intimidated and shrinking away from just asserting what they believe, or at least what they said they believe.â
Co-host Sara Haines then criticized Democrats for lacking any comprehensive plan to fix immigration rather than rioting against Immigration and Customs Enforcementâs (ICE) arrests of illegal immigrant criminals. Over 500 protesters resorted to violence on Thursday in response to ICE conducting a raid on a marijuana farm in Camarillo, California, where one individual appeared to fire a pistol at federal law enforcement.
âIt would be a ripe time for some elected Democrat to come forward with a secondary plan that isnât just march against ICE agents and sanctuary cities,â Haines said. âPeople want common sense solutions and no Democrat is coming out and saying âthis is a decades-long problem, it crosses all administrations, but hereâs what Iâm proposing.â Iâve heard none of that. And that is what I would encourage people in the Democratic Party to do because midterms come up in another year-and-a-half.â
Rioters in Los Angeles threw Molotov cocktails, rocks and other objects at law enforcement and lit vehicles on fire in retaliation against the ICE raids in the area. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said in a June 26 press release that agents arrested some of the âworst of the worstâ criminals, some of whom committed murder, fentanyl trafficking, and sexual assault.
