Newly uncovered Reddit posts are shedding light on the personal struggles of a Michigan mother who was killed alongside her six children in what authorities say was a Murder-suicide carried out by her husband.
According to The New York Post, police say 47-year-old Kristopher Karolkiewicz fatally shot his wife, Amanda “Mandy” Karolkiewicz, 39, and the couple’s six children, who ranged in age from 5 to 15, inside their Grand Haven Township home before setting multiple fires and taking his own life.
The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office said autopsies determined that every member of the family died from gunshot wounds. Officials also confirmed the family’s pets were killed in the fire.
According to the Detroit News, Mandy Karolkiewicz had posted on Reddit under the username MandyK1179, where she openly discussed difficulties in her marriage and claimed her husband had been unfaithful.
In one post from 2024, she wrote that she had met Kristopher while working as an intern.
She claimed he was older and divorced when their relationship began, but years later she alleged he had an affair with another intern who was the same age she had been when they first met.
She described the emotional toll the alleged affair had taken on her and wrote that she eventually realized she needed to begin prioritizing her own well-being after spending months blaming herself.
The report said Mandy frequently participated in the "As One After Infidelity" Reddit community, where people discuss rebuilding relationships after cheating.
She reportedly wrote that leaving her marriage felt impossible because the couple had six children together.
According to the outlet, she acknowledged seeing what she described as warning signs in her husband but said fear and family responsibilities decided to stay more complicated.
Mandy also wrote that the couple entered marriage counseling after she believed her husband had been acting suspiciously.
In another post, she recalled pushing him after learning of what she described as an emotional affair, saying she felt overwhelmed by the situation.
The couple married in August 2009 after meeting the previous year at a beverage company.
They welcomed their first child in 2011 before growing their family to six children through both birth and adoption.
Authorities discovered the family after responding to the burning home around midday Friday.
Before the tragedy, Kristopher Karolkiewicz had worked as vice president of sales and marketing for the American Heart Association, though his employment ended earlier this month.
Mandy Karolkiewicz worked as a substitute teacher in the Grand Haven Area Public Schools system after previous careers in banking and insurance.
The sheriff's office continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
