Radio host Charlamagne Tha God sparred with a caller on âThe Breakfast Clubâ who accused him on Wednesday of being biased toward Republicans following President Donald Trumpâs Tuesday congressional address.
Charlamagne did criticize Democrats on Wednesday during the âFront Page Newsâ segment of âThe Breakfast Club,â though it was for not being sufficiently âdisruptiveâ during Trumpâs speech. During the showâs âGet It Off Your Chestâ segment, a caller named Dre confronted Charlamagne for not calling out the Democrats for refusing to stand during Trumpâs address, even during heartfelt moments.

âHey, listen, I notice you come out very strong, right? Youâre very strong when you think Republicans do something disrespectful, but when the Democrats do something disrespectful, you donât got nothing to say,â Dre said. âI think it was very disrespectful, right, that regardless of how they feel about Trump, when they were celebrating that little boy from Texas and them police officers and family members and them people that got killed. And everyone was basically â the attention was for them â nobody stood up. You donât think that was disrespectful?â
Dre was referencing in part how Democrats refused to stand when Trump honored a 13-year-old boy with cancer named D.J. Daniel by making him an honorary Secret Service agent during his congressional address. Trump also honored the widow of slain New York City Police Department (NYPD) officer Jonathan Diller.
Moreover, the president announced during the speech that he had signed an executive order in the memory of the late Jocelyn Nungaray, a 12-year-old girl who was murdered by two illegal aliens. He said he had renamed Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge the âJocelyn Nungaray National Refugeâ while her mother, Alexis Nungaray, was in attendance.
Charlamagne at first appeared to agree with the caller.
âI think Democrats definitely should have â they definitely should have applauded that,â he said. âYou canât be so against another party that you donât applaud basic things like that.â
He then said it was âdisrespectfulâ to not stand before backtracking and saying heâs not sure âdisrespectâ is the proper word. He then asserted the Democrats did applaud, but did not rise from their seats, sparking a disagreement with the caller, who said they did not stand or clap.
âHey, youâre totally wrong, because you know whatâs so funny? Whenever I criticize Democrats, Democrats call in sounding like you do, and whenever I criticize Republicans, Republicans call in sounding like you do,â Charlamagne said. âAnd thatâs why I said we can never be objective. Because if a Republican says something, Democrats automatically say itâs a lie. If Democrats says something, Republicans automatically say itâs a lie. Nobody can ever be objective and just call it down the middle.â
âUncle Charla, itâs the way you say it, though. When you criticize Democrats, you call them stupid because they think Republican is winning and itâs getting away with stuff,â Dre said. âThatâs not criticism.â
Charlamagne then accused the caller of not listening to him âenoughâ before the call ended.
Priori to the 2024 presidential election, the radio host said he âabsolutely would endorseâ former Vice President Kamala Harris just after former President Joe Biden dropped out and endorsed her on July 21. He also repeatedly defended the former vice president during the 2024 presidential campaign when callers on âThe Breakfast Clubâ criticized her.
