Biden Issues Statement After Shooting at Trump Rally

Republican candidate Donald Trump is seen with blood on his face surrounded by secret service agents as he is taken off the stage at a campaign event at Butler Farm Show Inc. in Butler, Pennsylvania, July 13, 2024. Republican candidate Donald Trump was evacuated from the stage at today's rally after what sounded like shots rang out at the event in Pennsylvania, according to AFP. UPDATE [07/13/24, 8:23 p.m. EST]: Law enforcement sources say the shooter was located on a roof outside of the venue. The shooter was referred to as a sniper, per CNN. As CNN also reports, per a Secret Service source, Secret Service killed the shooter. Additionally, the incident at the rally resulted in the death of an attendee.

President Joe Biden says he is “praying” for Donald Trump after a shooting at the former president’s rally.

The president wrote in a statement on Saturday evening that he was briefed on the shooting at Trump’s rally in Pennsylvania.

“I’m grateful to hear that he’s safe and doing well. I’m praying for him and his family and for all those who were at the rally, as we await further information,” Biden wrote.

He continued: “Jill and I are grateful to the Secret Service for getting him to safety. There’s no place for this kind of violence in America. We must unite as one nation to condemn it.

Trump’s spokesperson Steven Cheung said Trump “is fine and is being checked out at a local medical facility,” per NBC News.

WARNING: The following video contains graphic violence that some viewers may find disturbing.

According to NBC News, “Three senior law enforcement officials said that they are looking into whether two other individuals in the crowd were shot at the rally. The threat has been ‘contained,’ according to the officials.”

President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, along with House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) have been briefed.

The Secret Service wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, that Trump is “safe” and “this is now an active Secret Service investigation and further information will be released when available.”
