Congresswoman-elect Mayra Flores (R-Texas) shared her thoughts after learning billionaire Elon Musk voted for her.
During an interview with Fox News, a tweet from Musk was mentioned.
“I voted for Mayra Flores – first time I ever voted Republican. Massive red wave in 2022,” Musk wrote.
When asked for her reaction, Flores replied, “I was very happy and I can’t thank him enough for all he is doing for my district.”
She added, “We need more people like him that believe in us and he’s been investing in this area for a long time and honestly we’re all grateful that he is investing here in our district.”
Flores continued, “I’m grateful to him for supporting me because this also is not just about me, it’s about the people here in Texas district 34 that deserve prosperity in this area.”

CNN projected on Wednesday that Flores would win the special election for Texas’ 34th Congressional District.
“This win is for the people who were ignored for so long! This is a message that the establishment will no longer be tolerated! We have officially started the red wave!!” the Flores campaign wrote on Facebook.
The National Republican Congressional Committee called Flores’ win a “blue print for success in South Texas,” as CNN reported.
National Republican Congressional Committee Chair Tom Emmer said in a statement the election “was a referendum on Democrats’ reckless policies that created a border crisis, led to record-high inflation, and sent gas prices soaring.”
Flores will be the first Mexican-born woman elected to Congress.
She explained to Fox News her family came to the U.S. when she was six years old.
“My father and my mother have been the most supportive parents. I wouldn’t be here without them,” she said.
Additionally, Flores reflected on her experience coming to the United States.
“I had an amazing experience coming here to the United States, and it shouldn’t be a rare experience,” Flores said.
