A Democratic congresswoman is calling for “new blood” in her own party.
During an interview with NBC’s “Meet the Press” Sunday, Rep. Elissa Slotkin (D-Mich.) was asked if she would support President Joe Biden if he runs again in 2024.
Slotkin explained she would support him and that the party would support him.
However, Slotkin noted she has been very vocal that the party needs a “new generation.”
She continued, “We need new blood, period, across the Democratic Party in the House, the Senate and the White House.”
Slotkin pointed out she is “one of just a handful” of members of Congress who has not voted for Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) as House speaker.
The congresswoman also said Congress needs new leaders from the midwest.
“That’s been important to me, is to reflect the middle of the country,” Slotkin said. “We’re here too.”

Pelosi recently received criticism and sparked calls for new leadership, as IJR reported.
Rep. Abigail Spanberger (D-Va.) issued a statement slamming Pelosi over her handling of legislation banning members of Congress from trading stocks.
“This moment marks a failure of House leadership — and it’s yet another example of why I believe that the Democratic Party needs new leaders in the halls of Capitol Hill, as I have long made known,” Spanberger said.
Last month, Democrat congressional candidate Matt Castelli, who is running against House Republican Conference chairwoman Elise Stefanik, called Pelosi “authoritarian,” as IJR reported.
During an interview on the Jeff Graham Show, Castelli explained, “And I’m willing to call out members of my own party when I think that they’re wrong. Listen, I think Pelosi is an authoritarian, and I’m not going to support her for another term as speaker.”
Pelosi recently shared what she might want to do if Republicans take the House in the midterm elections, as IJR reported.
