Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin received backlash after wearing a jacket with an image on it seemingly mocking Jesus Christ.
On Sunday, Hamlin attended the 2023 Super Bowl game in Glendale, Arizona, where the Kansas City Chiefs played against the Philadelphia Eagles.Â
Galatians 6:7 says, âDo not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap.â
During his appearance, Hamlin wore a jacket with a zombie-like depiction of Jesus Christ on the back. Many users on Twitter slammed Hamlin for his choice of clothing.
âHereâs a better view of Damar Hamlinâs blasphemous jacket. Our prayers might have saved his life, but apparently not his soul,â Stew Peters, from âThe Stew Peters Show,â wrote.
One user responded, âHow disgusting is that jacket. This feels like a deliberate kick in the teeth to all the people who prayed for him. Why would he do that i (sic) makes no sense.â
Another tweet noted how much Hamlin has been openly speaking about God after his recent medical emergency.
âDefinitely an interesting choice of attire for Damar Hamlin a guy who basically died on the football field and has been preaching about prayers, god and etc ever since. Hmmm,â the user wrote.
On Jan. 2, Hamlin collapsed while playing a game against the Cincinnati Bengals.
In a statement by the Buffalo Bills on Twitter, team officials confirmed he had suffered a cardiac arrest.
âDamar Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest following a hit in our game versus the Bengals. His heartbeat was restored on the field and he was transferred to the UC Medical Center for further testing and treatment. He is currently sedated and listed in critical condition,â the team wrote.
On Feb. 9, Hamlin attended the NFL Honors and gave a heartfelt speech as he was surrounded by the medical staff who saved his life.
âMy vision was about playing in the NFL and being the best player that I can be, but Godâs plan was to have a purpose greater than any game in this world,â he said.
