The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) confirmed Tuesday that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) will conduct active enforcement operations during Super Bowl LX in Santa Clara, California, on February 8. The announcement comes amid escalating anti-ICE protests across the country and growing backlash from left-wing groups calling for the agency’s defunding.

DHS Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs Tricia McLaughlin told TMZ Sports that ICE’s mission “remains unchanged,” despite widespread unrest in Minnesota following recent fatal encounters between federal agents and protesters.

Per Fox News, DHS adviser Corey Lewandowski reiterated in October that ICE operations will not be suspended for the Super Bowl. “There is nowhere you can provide safe haven to people who are in this country illegally,” he said on “The Benny Show” podcast. “Not the Super Bowl and nowhere else. We will find and deport you. That is a very real situation.”

McLaughlin emphasized that all law enforcement actions would be conducted in accordance with the Constitution. “Those who are here legally and are not breaking other laws have nothing to fear,” she added.

The confirmation comes as tensions flare nationwide, with ICE and Border Patrol agents facing aggressive protests from activist groups, including hotel sit-ins, street blockades, and even threats directed at DHS leadership. Despite the pressure, the Trump administration is doubling down on immigration enforcement during one of the nation’s highest-profile events.

And the Super Bowl controversy doesn’t stop there.

President Donald Trump announced he is boycotting Super Bowl LX. The reason? The halftime show.

Trump blasted the NFL’s artist selections—Bad Bunny and Green Day—as “a terrible choice.” “I’m anti-them. All it does is sow hatred,” Trump said, accusing the league of leaning into culture war politics rather than celebrating unity.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell defended the decision, saying the selections were “carefully thought through” and noting that backlash is nothing new. “It’s pretty hard to [please everyone] when you have literally hundreds of millions of people that are watching,” he said.

With ICE operations confirmed, nationwide protests brewing, Super Bowl LX is already shaping up to be far more than a football game.
