150+ Players Challenge ATP’s Proposed Doubles Cuts
More than 150 men’s doubles players, former players and national federations have urged the ATP to reconsider proposed changes that could take effect from 2028. The proposals would halve doubles draws at Masters 1000 events and reduce fields at ATP 500 and 250 tournaments, while cutting doubles’ share of prize money from 20% to 10% and redirecting funds to singles players. The signatories warn the changes could eliminate professional opportunities and make it harder for doubles specialists to build sustainable careers. The ATP says doubles will remain a core part of the tour and that its review is aimed at finding a sustainable model, with discussions to continue with its Player Advisory Council.
