$400,000 Gift Backs Armstrong Home Preservation
Retired Air Force pilot Ken Schreiber donated $400,000 to help the Auglaize County Historical Society acquire Neil Armstrong’s boyhood home in Wapakoneta, Ohio, after learning it was for sale and at risk of losing its historical significance. The home, where Armstrong built model airplanes and tested them in a homemade basement wind tunnel, is largely preserved. The society plans to restore it to its 1940s appearance and open it for public tours by 2030, the 100th anniversary of Armstrong’s birth.
