Nick Bosa nears practice return ahead of 49ers' Australia opener
The 49ers expect star edge rusher Nick Bosa to return to practice this week after a lengthy ACL rehab, with GM John Lynch signaling that Bosa hopes to practice on Wednesday and that the club is easing him back in to avoid setbacks. Lynch emphasized Bosa’s strong body awareness and past returns from ACL injuries, while acknowledging that the ramp-up has been careful due to lingering tendinitis and soreness from a recent ACL recovery. Reports indicate Bosa has been limited to side-work in recent days as the team, and Bosa himself, monitor his knee ahead of the season opener in Australia against the Rams. The team plans a Wednesday on-field return as a critical step before departing for Melbourne, where they will rely on a gradual reintroduction to team drills. In addition to Bosa, tight end George Kittle is also nearing practice readiness, with coaches managing workloads to ensure both players are available for the overseas opener. The 49ers have been without Bosa for much of last season, contributing to a historically low team sack total, so his return is viewed as pivotal for the defense’s effectiveness in 2026.
