49ers Release Defensive Lineman Naquan Jones
The 49ers released defensive tackle Naquan Jones from their active roster after he appeared in three games this season, with James Thompson’s return from injury making Jones expendable. The move also created roster flexibility as San Francisco considered opening a return-to-practice window for wide receiver Christian Kirk, who has been on injured reserve with a calf injury. The team subsequently signed Jones to its practice squad and released linebacker Eugene Asante to make room. Jones has appeared in 63 NFL games over his career, recording 104 tackles and 6.5 sacks.
