68 NYC Park Bathrooms Sit Closed for Years
Park restroom closures are affecting visitors in several communities, for different reasons. In New York City, 68 Parks Department facilities are closed, including nine shut for at least nine years; advocates cite chronic underfunding, costly repairs and contracting hurdles, while the city has begun installing modular bathrooms. Cheyenne and Hastings are closing some park restrooms and drinking fountains for winter, with Cheyenne providing portable toilets at three parks and Hastings keeping some heated restrooms open as conditions allow. A restroom at Cauley Creek Park in Georgia is temporarily closed for water-line repairs, with nearby alternatives available.
