Arkansas State University has completed $750,000 in meat-lab upgrades funded by the state Office of Skills Development, including new processing and packaging equipment, a new roof and refrigeration improvements. The upgrades are designed to support large-scale production of venison snack sticks for Arkansas Hunters Feeding the Hungry, which distributes them to students at 70 schools in 48 counties through weekend backpack programs. The lab will also give agriculture students hands-on training with commercial-style food-processing equipment.
