Acadia expects Rett drug protection through 2041

Acadia Pharmaceuticals received a Notice of Allowance from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for a patent covering weight-banded dosing of trofinetide, the active ingredient in its Rett syndrome treatments DAYBUE and DAYBUE STIX. Once issued, the patent, together with six months of pediatric exclusivity, is expected to protect trofinetide in the United States through March 28, 2041—nearly five years beyond the existing method-of-use patent’s July 2036 expiration. Acadia says the allowance strengthens its long-term intellectual-property protections for the treatment, which is approved for adults and children ages 2 and older. The extension also supports Neuren Pharmaceuticals, which licensed trofinetide to Acadia, as Neuren continues developing other treatments for rare neurodevelopmental disorders.
