Schools and communities nationwide stage suicide prevention walks and presentations
Communities and schools are promoting suicide prevention through education, public awareness and events that connect people with support. UNK Counseling staff are offering a presentation to help faculty and staff recognize distress and respond, while students from rival Flathead and Glacier high schools joined a yellow-themed campaign to remind peers they are valued and not alone. In Topeka, residents gathered for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention’s annual Out of the Darkness walk to honor loved ones and encourage conversations about mental health; organizers also pointed people to the 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. IU Southeast hosted a two-mile Out of the Darkness walk featuring a bead ceremony, with proceeds supporting the foundation.
