Alabama Executes Michael Taylor for 1991 Double Murder
Alabama executed Michael Shannon Taylor by lethal injection at Holman Correctional Facility on Nov. 5, nearly 35 years after he killed Ivan and Lucille Moore during a robbery at their Gadsden home. Taylor, who was 19 at the time of the killings, had asked to be executed using nitrogen gas, but the state proceeded with lethal injection after his lawyers’ challenge to the change did not stop the execution. Gov. Kay Ivey declined to grant clemency, while Attorney General Steve Marshall said the execution brought long-awaited justice to the couple’s loved ones. Taylor’s death was pronounced at 6:10 p.m.
