Alabama Students Collect 12,000 Cans Against Hunger
University of Alabama students launched the annual Beat Auburn Beat Hunger food drive with a “Roll Tide” display built from 12,000 donated cans, which were sent to the West Alabama Food Bank for distribution. The student-run campaign, held in the weeks before the Iron Bowl, is a friendly competition with Auburn’s food drive that benefits food banks serving communities in western and eastern Alabama; the two schools have raised millions of pounds of food over the years. Separately, Cheyenne high school students are seeking at least 1,200 cans of green beans for St. Joseph’s Food Pantry, which plans to use them to help feed more than 500 families at Thanksgiving.
