Alaska storm expected to bring 3 feet of snow
A powerful storm is moving across Alaska, bringing heavy snow to the Interior and Alaska Range, heavy rain to parts of the southern coast, and strong winds that could make travel hazardous. The heaviest snowfall is forecast in the eastern Alaska Range, where higher elevations could receive 2 to 3 feet, with substantial totals also possible around the Yukon Flats, Delta Junction, and communities near the Canadian border. Coastal areas from Prince William Sound toward Juneau could see several inches of rain, while exposed locations may face damaging gusts. Blowing and drifting snow could sharply reduce visibility, and forecasters warn that driving over some mountain passes may become extremely difficult or impossible. Forecast totals and storm timing vary across regions, and snowfall near Fairbanks remains sensitive to the storm’s track.
