Alaska Travel, Railroad Museums Across Four States
Railroad museums across Mississippi, Michigan, Alaska and Louisiana preserve regional rail history through historic depots, locomotives and operating trains. Mississippi highlights rebuilt McComb Depot and Water Valley’s Casey Jones museum, while Michigan features Pere Marquette 1225, Durand Union Station and collections at The Henry Ford. Alaska’s sites include railroad equipment displays in Wasilla, restoration of the state’s last regularly used steam locomotive, and the Tanana Valley Railroad’s special steam runs; the White Pass & Yukon Route remains an operating railroad. Louisiana’s offerings range from the DeQuincy depot and Long Leaf’s sawmill railroad heritage to a model-railroad museum and efforts to establish a new home for Southern Pacific locomotive No. 745.
