Albuquerque Mother Charged After Boy Allegedly Kills Teen
A 10-year-old boy fatally shot a teenage girl during a fight between neighbors over loud music outside an Albuquerque apartment complex. Police say the boy went inside, retrieved a handgun and fired one shot; accounts differ on whether his mother told him to get the weapon or whether he was trying to intervene in the fight. His mother, 40-year-old Elaina Gomez-Villeda, faces murder and several other charges, including child abuse and negligently making a firearm accessible to a minor. After officers arrived, Gomez-Villeda reportedly came outside with a gun, prompting an officer to fire; no one was hit, and she surrendered. Authorities are investigating the shooting and determining how to handle the boy’s case given his age.
