Aldi lowers prices on nearly a third of staples through November

Aldi has lowered prices on a range of fresh produce, lean proteins and other staples at all U.S. stores, with the reductions taking effect Sept. 23 and lasting at least through Nov. 3. The company estimates the temporary cuts will save shoppers $86 million, including a $1.99-per-pound price for Kirkwood chicken breast family packs and reduced prices on fall fruits, vegetables, coffee, nuts and paper towels. Aldi says nearly one-third of its regularly stocked items now cost less than they did a year ago, though that figure includes earlier reductions and excludes seasonal items and limited-time Aldi Finds. The move comes as grocery and gasoline costs remain elevated and competitors such as Walmart, Kroger, Stop & Shop and BJ’s pursue their own discounts to attract price-conscious shoppers.
