Aliso Canyon Settlement Offers $40 Million for Home Electrification

The first $20 million in incentives from the Aliso Canyon settlement is now available to help residents affected by the 2015 methane blowout replace gas appliances with electric heat pumps, stoves, water heaters and other equipment; the program will distribute $40 million in total. Eligible single-family homeowners in the affected area can apply, with additional funding for some income-qualified residents and access for multi-property owners to come later. Organizers say electrification can improve home health and safety, reduce energy costs and create local jobs. The leak took nearly four months to control, sickened thousands of families and released nearly 100,000 tons of methane and other substances.
