Alterra Plans $350 Million Resort Investments
Alterra Mountain Company plans to invest more than $350 million across its North American resorts for the 2026-27 winter season, emphasizing terrain expansion, snowmaking, avalanche safety, guest amenities and employee housing. Deer Valley in Utah will open the Hail Peak Express, adding 200 skiable acres, seven runs and beginner-oriented snow features, bringing the resort to 4,500 acres and 32 lifts. At Mont Tremblant in Quebec, a new learning area will open this winter, while the larger Timber Summit project is scheduled for 2027-28 with 62 acres, eight trails and a high-speed lift expected to increase hourly capacity by 10 percent. Alterra is also directing nearly $9 million toward remote avalanche-control systems at Palisades Tahoe, Mammoth Mountain and June Mountain. Snowmaking upgrades at Solitude, Deer Valley and Winter Park are intended to improve coverage and support earlier openings, while other investments include operational improvements and expanded use of hybrid snowcats.
