Alzheimer’s, ALS Walks Raise Nearly $3 Million
Community walks across the country raised money and awareness for Alzheimer’s disease and ALS. In Baltimore, about 2,000 people joined the Walk to End Alzheimer’s at The Maryland Zoo, raising more than $727,000; San Francisco’s walk drew more than 2,000 participants and raised over $1.2 million for research, support and care, as organizers noted that more than 140,000 Bay Area residents live with Alzheimer’s or another form of dementia. In Chicago, a record crowd of more than 2,500 at the ALS Walk for Life raised over $1 million, the event’s strongest fundraising total in more than a decade, for research and services for people with ALS and their families. ALS walks in Columbia and South Philadelphia also brought community members together to raise funds and awareness, with Columbia participants sharing the personal toll of the disease on patients and families.
