Andrew and Tristan Tate indicted in Romania on trafficking, laundering charges

Romanian prosecutors have formally indicted social media influencer Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan Tate, charging them with trafficking minors, money laundering, and attempting to influence witnesses, in a case dating back years to when authorities began investigating them. Prosecutors allege the brothers used the sexual exploitation of a victim who was recruited at age 15, and they say Andrew Tate faced charges including trafficking a minor, repeated sexual acts with a minor, and continued money laundering, while Tristan Tate was charged with complicity in the trafficking and related offenses. Authorities allege the victim was controlled through threats, emotional blackmail, surveillance, and physical violence, and was compelled to produce pornographic material and perform videochat work for Andrew Tate’s benefit. Prosecutors claim the brothers received more than 1.25 million US dollars from the victim’s videochat earnings, with Tristan Tate allegedly managing accounts and handling funds despite knowing the victim’s age and how she was recruited. Prosecutors also allege Andrew Tate had sexual contact with a second 15-year-old girl between late 2020 and mid-2021 and that both brothers attempted to influence victims and witnesses by offering money, phones, and legal help. The brothers—dual U.S. and British citizens—were arrested in Miami in late July after Britain requested their extradition.
