Rents Fall in Two of Five Cities, Hold or Rise in Others

Zumper-based reports show apartment listing rents varied across Norwich, Gainesville, Oak Ridge and two Iowa cities, rather than moving uniformly. Reported typical rents were $1,725 in Norwich and $1,573 in Gainesville, with both described as essentially unchanged from the prior month; Oak Ridge’s $1,469 median was down 8%. In Iowa, the median was $1,295 in Iowa City, slightly above the prior month, and $972 in Ames, down 6%. Ames’ report noted that excluding subsidized listings raised its median to $1,050, while Gainesville’s rose to $1,575. The reports put the nationwide median at about $1,900, with one-bedroom rents at $1,550 and two-bedroom rents at $1,800.
