Archaeologists Unearth Four Alamo Battle Cannonballs
Archaeologists have uncovered four cannonballs linked to the 1836 Battle of the Alamo during excavations around the Alamo Church in San Antonio, adding physical evidence to the site’s history. The solid-shot projectiles range in size and correspond to different cannon calibers; archaeologists connected them to the battle through their location and surrounding artifacts. Their origin remains uncertain: some bronze examples may have belonged to the Mexican army, but they could have been recovered and used by either side. The 13-day siege ended with Mexican forces overrunning the Texian defenders, and the battle became a rallying cry for the Texas Revolution.
