Arizona Opens First Three Federal EV Stations
Arizona has opened its first three federally funded fast-charging stations, in Tucson, Green Valley and Wellton, as part of a planned statewide network of about 80 locations intended to make electric-vehicle travel more practical and ease range concerns. The stations are part of the federal National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure program, which is funding construction of a nationwide network; Arizona is administering $76.5 million for the state effort. Chargers are generally planned within three miles of highways and about 90 miles apart, with locations typically equipped with at least four 150-kilowatt fast chargers. Two additional stations are expected along Interstate 40 in Seligman and Holbrook later this year, while other projects are in development and bidding is underway for 49 future locations.
